Duluth’s Most Bananas Fun Run Returns to Duluth on May 30th

Duluth’s Most Bananas Fun Run is back. The Going Bananas Run returns on May 30, 2026, bringing hundreds of banana-suited runners to the streets for one of the most fun, high-energy events of the spring.

Started in Duluth in 2025, the Going Bananas Run has quickly built a loyal following, known for its lighthearted atmosphere, approachable format, and strong connection to a meaningful cause. What started as a fun idea has grown into a can’t-miss event on the local calendar.

In 2026, the event is set to reach a new milestone, with more than 800 participants expected, making it the largest gathering of people dressed as bananas in the world. The sight of hundreds of runners in bright yellow suits has become a signature Duluth moment.

“This event has really taken off in a way we didn’t expect,” said Andrew Weisz, one of the event organizers and president of Finden Marketing. “It’s fun, it’s different, and Duluth has fully embraced it. That’s what makes it special.”

How It Works

The Going Bananas Run is designed to be simple, fun, and open to everyone. Participants register online and receive a banana suit as part of their entry.

On race day, runners and walkers take to the course dressed head-to-toe in yellow, creating a high-energy, community atmosphere. Two minutes after the start, “the gorilla” is released to chase participants toward the finish. If runners beat the gorilla, a portion of proceeds is donated to the event’s charitable partner Project Joy.

The event is open to all ages and experience levels, making it just as welcoming for first-timers as it is for seasoned runners.

Going Bananas Run is proud to have great community support with fantastic organizations and chamber members sponsoring the event. These include Volkswagen of Duluth, Finden Marketing, Minnesota Power, and SuperOne Foods.
