Current volunteers of the Richard I Bong Veterans Historical Center and students at Superior High School, Dallas Jondraou, and Amber Smith are filling in large footprints for their senior project. We’re very excited to see a continuation of last year’s “Battle for the Bong.”
Both Dallas and Amber are not only history buffs, but Amber is on the Superior High School softball team (#9), and Dallas is currently enlisted in the U.S. Army. For their senior year project, they decided to give back to veterans just as they have been doing for several years. These thoughtful students have continued “Battle for the Bong Center” — a special softball game and fundraiser!
“Veterans are the embodiment of courage, resilience, and commitment,” said John Gidley, Executive Director of the Bong Center. “We owe them a debt we can never fully repay — but today, through your support, we’re taking a step toward showing our gratitude and recognizing area Veterans for their service. These young volunteers are carrying on a remarkable experience that was started last year, for the veterans and the community to enjoy.”
The Battle for the Bong Center will begin at 4:30 pm and include American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard presenting the colors, as well as each player from both teams being introduced along with their veteran as they walk together onto the field. Dallas and Amber have enlisted sponsors as well as raised donations from the community. The event will have silent auction items and other fun ways to support their cause.
The Richard I Bong Veterans Historical Center would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation toward Dallas and Amber, as well as the coaches, players, parents, faculty, and staff of Superior and Northwestern High Schools for their enthusiastic support of this project and efforts in helping Amber and Dallas carry on this event that was started last year by former Spartan standout softballers Paige Johnson and Ariana Robillard.
