Spring is just ahead, so get ready for the gardening season by attending the annual Spring Gardening
Extravaganza held at the Depot in Duluth March 21 and the Spring Gardening Spectacular at the Mt. Iron Community Center on March 25.
This year’s theme is The Great Northern Gardener: Hardy and Happy. Keynote presentations will include A Look at the Season Ahead, Spectacular New Plant Introductions, New Disease-Resistant Tomatoes, Gardening and the Gut Microbiome Revisited, Biochar and Gardening, Fundamentals of Landscape Design, and Expert Input into Developing Your Landscape Plan.
Participants will be able to select from afternoon classes and workshops, including Soil Testing and
Growing Cover Crops, Growing Minnesota’s Blueberries, Nutrient-Dense Vegetables, Growing Hardy
Roses, Peonies and Dahlias, Propagating Houseplants, Pruning Trees and Shrubs, and Constructing
Terrariums. A resource folder will be available to all participants covering these topics.
The program is co-sponsored by St. Louis County Extension, University of Minnesota Extension, and
Master Gardeners and runs from 9 am – 4 pm; registration begins at 8:15 am. The Mt. Iron Community
Center is located at 8586 Enterprise Dr. S.
The cost of the program is $30 and includes classes, a catered lunch, refreshments, and the resource
