Spring Gardening Extravaganza

Spring is just ahead so get ready for the gardening season by attending Spring Gardening
Extravaganza on March 21 at the Depot in Duluth.

This amazing day of gardening is brought to you by St. Louis County Extension and University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners.

This year’s theme is The Great Northern Gardener: Gardening for the Body, Mind and
Spirit. Keynote presentations will include A Look at the Season Ahead, Spectacular New Plant
Introductions, New Disease Resistant Tomatoes, Gardening and the Gut Microbiome Update,
Biochar and Gardening, Fundamentals of Landscape Design, and Expert Input into Developing
Your Landscape Plan. Keynote speakers include Tom Kasper, Bob Olen, Troy Salzer, and Julie
Overom; all noted horticultural specialists from the Northland.

Participants can choose from 14 afternoon sessions including: Growing Cover Crops, Soil
Testing, Composting, Raised Bed Gardening, Nutrient Dense Vegetables, Growing Minnesota’s
Blueberries, Growing Hardy Roses, Growing Peonies and Dahlias, Container Gardening, Bee
Friendly/Low Input Lawns, Propagating Houseplants, Pruning Trees and Shrubs, Winter
Sowing, and Constructing Terrariums.

The cost of the day is $38 and includes a catered lunch, refreshments, displays and the 2026
Resource Book published for this event. A similar program, Spring Gardening Spectacular will
be held on Wednesday, March 25th at the Mt. Iron Community Center.
