“My career has been shaped by over 35 years of leadership experience in education, arts and social justice work,” said Christina Woods, Executive Director of the Duluth Art Institute since 2017. “Before joining the DAI, I spent 14 years in education, often using creative problem-solving and art as tools to nurture communication and connection. My background as a cultural advocate, storyteller and educator has naturally led me to leadership roles where I can amplify voices and build bridges across communities.”

“The Duluth Art Institute is a vital cultural landing spot that brings the transformative power of art to our community,” Woods said. “Through exhibitions, classes and outreach programs, the DAI fosters creativity, dialogue and belonging. We are committed to providing access to art for all while honoring diverse perspectives and stories.”

“What makes the DAI unique in the region is our focus on inclusive programming and social impact,” Woods said. “We emphasize uplifting artists of color, Indigenous artists and underrepresented communities through mentorship, exhibition opportunities and community engagement.”

Woods said that being appointed to the U.S. Senate Curatorial Advisory Board and leading the DAI through a significant relocation to the U.S. Bank Building in downtown Duluth were both major milestones for her during her tenure, and that she sees a future full of opportunity for the DAI. “With our new space in downtown Duluth,” she said, “we are excited to reimagine how we engage with our audience and showcase art that reflects our community’s diversity and experiences. The new year will bring collaborations, new exhibitions and further exploration of how art can serve as a powerful catalyst for connection, healing and transformation.”
