Union Gospel Mission will host its 2nd Annual Miles for the Mission 5K on Saturday, March 7, at 11 am, beginning at Leif Erickson Park and concluding with a celebration at Bent Paddle Brewing Co.
The community-wide event invites participants of all ages and abilities to run or walk in support of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Northland.
Registration is $40 per adult participant, and kids participate free. Online registration is
available at duluth-ugm.org, with same-day registration offered at the park prior to the race
start.
This year, generosity will go even further. Project Joy has committed a $10,000 matching gift
for the event, meaning every dollar donated will be doubled — amplifying the impact of
every registration and contribution.
The 5K route intentionally mirrors the path many Mission guests take when leaving the
Mission and walking to the local warming center during the winter months. By tracing those
same streets, participants gain a tangible glimpse into the daily reality faced by neighbors
navigating homelessness in freezing conditions. More than a fundraiser, the event becomes
a shared moment of awareness, compassion, and community action.
“This event isn’t just about miles — it’s about momentum,” said Katie Hagglund, Executive
Director of Union Gospel Mission. “Every step taken helps provide meals, outreach, and
housing support to people who need hope right now.”
Union Gospel Mission has served the Duluth community since 1922. In the past year alone,
the Mission has provided over 100,000 meals and expanded outreach efforts connecting
individuals to treatment, shelter, and long-term housing solutions.
Proceeds from the 5K will directly support the Mission’s meal program, outreach services,
and housing initiatives.
