Resource Renew will open the Yard Waste Compost Site (YWCS) on Wednesday, April 15, which will resume seasonal business hours, Wednesday – Saturday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Residents can drop off leaves, yard trimmings, brush, and logs at that time. Bulk compost will be available for purchase, but bagged compost availability is unknown at this time.
Yard waste has been banned from the landfill in Minnesota since the early 1990s, prompting Resource Renew to provide the YWCS as a service to the community for yard waste disposal. Yard waste dropped off at Resource Renew is incorporated into the large-scale composting process. Leaves, grass clippings and garden scraps are free to drop off. Brush and logs are $10/yard and will be ground up for composting.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of composting food scraps with yard waste at Resource Renew. Resource Renew will be celebrating its 25th composting anniversary with a solid waste tour on April 25, and during International Compost Awareness Week, May 3-9.
