Northspan announces the release of its 2025 DAWN Impact Report, highlighting three years of progress strengthening Northeast Minnesota’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through the Driving Access to Wealth and Networks initiative. From 2023 through 2025, DAWN supported hundreds of founders, expanded access to capital, and helped build durable networks that are reshaping how entrepreneurs start and grow businesses across the region.
During the three‑year period, DAWN engaged 418 entrepreneurs, supported new business formations and expansions, and helped founders secure more than $6 million in capital. The initiative focused on connecting under‑resourced entrepreneurs to the right training, relationships, and financing at the right time, with the goal of increasing long‑term economic opportunity and regional resilience.
“DAWN is about far more than individual businesses,” said Elissa Hansen, President & CEO of Northspan. “It is about building an ecosystem where entrepreneurs and communities feel connected, supported, and equipped to succeed. When access to capital and networks increases, the benefits ripple across families, communities, and the entire region.”
The impact report documents how DAWN combined practical training, technical assistance, peer learning, and investor engagement to support entrepreneurs at multiple stages. Participants included early‑stage founders as well as established businesses pursuing growth, innovation, and expansion.
Beyond direct capital outcomes, DAWN emphasized network‑building as a core strategy. Every engagement point was designed to strengthen relationships between entrepreneurs, lenders, investors, technical assistance providers and community partners. These connections are intended to endure beyond individual programs or funding cycles, creating a more inclusive and accessible entrepreneurial landscape.
The report also highlights entrepreneur stories that illustrate DAWN’s approach in action, from technology startups scaling nationally to creative and community‑based enterprises generating local impact. These stories demonstrate how tailored support and trusted relationships can help founders overcome barriers and unlock new opportunities.
DAWN’s work reflects Northspan’s broader mission to serve as expert navigators that transform ideas into accomplishments.
