Construction to Begin to Resurface Building For Women Plaza

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 14, construction will begin at the Building for Women (32 E. 1st St.,
Duluth) to resurface the Dr. Jane Hodgson Plaza.

This construction is an important step to improve accessibility to the building and prevent any additional water damage to its structure. During the construction period, the front entrance (facing 1st Street) will be closed, and signage will direct visitors to the back entrance (alley between Superior Street and 1st Street).

The Building for Women houses the Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault (PAVSA), WE Health
Clinic, YWCA Duluth, Duluth Community School Collaborative, League of Women Voters of Duluth
and Boreal Development. Please check with each agency to learn more about how this construction may
affect their available services.

PAVSA will continue its 24/7 helpline (218-726-1931) and hospital response. Advocates will continue to
meet with survivors at partner agencies, at the courthouse, in other community spaces, and virtually.

Due to the disruptive nature of the construction from Oct. 14-Oct. 21, we will not offer walk-in services or schedule appointments at the Building for Women. We will use our social media (@pavsaduluth) to update the community on our availability as the construction progresses.

WE Health Clinic and YWCA Duluth will remain open and continue providing services throughout construction. There will be no changes to programs offered by Duluth Community School Collaborative or Boreal Development.

We are grateful to the Ordean Foundation, Duluth 1200 Fund, and Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) program for making this project possible.
