Construct Tomorrow Events to Take Place March 17-18

Construct Tomorrow will take place on Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18, from 9 am to 3:30 pm in Edmund Fitzgerald Hall and the DECC Arena.

A press conference will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 10 am with Mayor Roger Reinert, ISD709 Superintendent John Magas, Duluth Chamber of Commerce President Matt Baumgartner, Duluth Building and Construction Trades Council President Jack Carlson, and additional community leaders. The press conference will highlight the ways each of these entities support careers in the building and construction trades in the Twin Ports community.

Area high school students will explore hands-on opportunities to experience work performed in different building and construction trade careers. Students will wire circuits, trowel cement, set tile, and much more as they move through a series of stations staffed by representatives of 14 local union apprenticeship programs. Students will learn about earn-as-you-learn apprenticeships in high-demand living wage careers that are vital to the economic growth of the region.

Roughly 1,000 Twin Ports-area students are signed up to participate in the Construct Tomorrow event.

In addition, there will be a community open house from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 in Edmund Fitzgerald Hall and the DECC Arena. This is an opportunity for members of the public who are interested in building and construction trade careers to meet with representatives of local union apprenticeship programs while also having access to local signatory contractors and workforce development professionals to help them navigate career options.
