You know it’s officially fall when the leaves begin to turn, the air gets a little cooler and pumpkins start appearing everywhere.
This special weekend in October, families can climb aboard the Great Pumpkin Train with the North Shore Scenic Railroad and Lake Superior Railroad Museum for a fall adventure that ends with the ultimate Halloween
must-have, a pumpkin of your very own.
The Great Pumpkin Train runs Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 15–18, with multiple departures each day from the historic Duluth Depot in downtown Duluth. Trains depart at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30
p.m, carrying passengers on a colorful journey along the North Shore to the railroad’s pumpkin patch. Once there, passengers can search through a blanket of orange and pick out the perfect pumpkin to take home and transform into a Jack-O’-Lantern.
The fun continues when the train returns to The Depot. Great Pumpkin Train passengers receive included admission to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, where the whole family can enjoy live magic shows, a ventriloquist, coloring, balloon creations, snacks and more. Guests are welcome to stay and enjoy the museum and activities as long as they like.
Of course, cameras are highly recommended. Between the fall colors from the train, the pumpkin patch and the activities at the Depot, there are plenty of opportunities for great family photos and maybe a few future holiday-card pictures.
New this year, a giant pumpkin is on display at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, complete with a “guess the
weight” contest for everyone to enjoy and win fun prizes. This huge competition level pumpkin is visiting the railroad for this special event this weekend.
