University of Minnesota Duluth will host the UMD AI Summit: Beyond the Hype: Practical AI, Human-Centered Work on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the UMD Ballroom.
A reception will follow from 4 to 5 p.m.
The Summit, which is free and open to the public, will bring together faculty, staff, students, business leaders, and community members to explore how artificial intelligence is changing business and the workplace.
The program will feature a keynote address, a series of AI Spotlight Talks, and a panel conversation. Speakers will address practical applications of AI, emerging developments in the technology, and the importance of human judgment, creativity, ethics, and leadership in an increasingly AI-enabled workplace.
“AI is creating extraordinary opportunities, but the important question is not simply what the technology can do,” said Praveen Aggarwal, Dean of UMD’s Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE). “We also need to ask how we can use it thoughtfully and responsibly while keeping people at the center of the conversation.”
The UMD AI Summit is designed to move the discussion beyond the hype and provide participants with practical insights into both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI.
